Parliamentary Question.

M.K.Lo was, in December 1941, a Member of the Legislative Council, on which he had served for several years, On the surrender of the Colony to the Japanese, he and other leaders of the Chinese community were requested by the senior British Officials still at liberty to continue to represent the needs of the Chinese population to the Japanese authorities.

Extensive enquiries have been made into the activities of the two Chinese Councils during the occupation and the administration has naturally assured itself that Mr. Lo acted throughout in accordance with the instructions he had been given and was inspired by no motives other than those of concern for the sufferings and distress of the people of Hong Kong.

3. There is no doubt of his loyalty and we very strongly resent the implications underlying the Honourable Member's question. Mr. Lo was appointed Rice Controller for the period of the Military Administration because of his ability and suitability for the post.
